“One who gains strength by overcoming obstacles possesses the only strength which can overcome adversity.”
Some time ago a friend of mine, Jim Barnes, contracted a massive infection causing him to lie in the hospital for 143 days. This infection literally invaded his body and spinal cord leaving him a quadriplegic.
Showing tremendous strength, incredible courage, and huge faith, he never gave up. His comeback has been nothing short of miraculous! Over a period of two years with God’s help, he has re-learned everything from swallowing, to sitting up, to walking, and now works out several times a week.
In the last couple of years he has shown up almost every day to do physical therapy and training at Sky Fitness. He refers to his workouts as his “time at the office,” realizing that this lifestyle would become his full-time job if he wanted a complete recovery.
His hard work and persistence has paid off and he is almost as good as new. To look at Jim you would never know that he was once a quadriplegic. This is the stuff that miracles are made of; and man, does he have a miracle or what?!
Do you know someone like Jim who has proven that adversity CAN be overcome?
